The Girvan Patent Still 25 year old single grain mini tasting 2.5cl 42% ABV

I was given this sample of Girvan at a recent SWWIG whisky tasting, along with a mystery dram, by Jon in exchange for some samples of Balcones Brimstone. This is 100% grain spirit aged for 25 years in American white oak barrels. The original Girvan patent still hails from 1963 and was constructed by Charles Gordon. After recently enjoying the Girvan Patent Still No. 4 Apps at The Whisky Exchange Show I was very much looking forward to this dram.
Colour: golden
Nose: very fruity and fragrant. Lemon peel and oranges. Vanilla sponge. Slight spice. Smells quite fresh and grainy.
Body: thick and creamy.
Palate: buttery and sweet. Loads of wonderful vanilla toffee. Crème caramels and custard. Moves onto slightly spicy oak. Nice and a quality smoothness.
Finish: rich mouth coating wood. Lasting, with notes of vanilla extract.
Overall a nicely matured spirit. Highly enjoyable and satisfying. A refined and top notch grain experience.
Cheers!
Daryl
